Supporting Schools

Educating schools about attachment

The Alex Timpson Trust’s main aim is to help every school become more aware of attachment problems, and help them better respond to the emotional needs of fostered and adopted children.

Funding a five-year attachment research project

In June 2017, the Alex Timpson Trust donated £750K to fund a new research programme at the Rees Centre for Research in Fostering and Education at Oxford University.

Known as the Timpson Attachment Programme, this five-year research initiative focused on attachment awareness and understanding how schools can offer more support to vulnerable young people.

Concluding in May 2022, the project delivered training in attachment and trauma to over 300 schools, and then measured the impact of that training on education providers. See the findings here or download the project’s concluding summary below!

Financial support for schools around the country

Alongside our mission to make schools more aware of attachment problems, we’ve offered funding to support schools in other areas.

Delamere Academy

Since 2007, we’ve been helping Delamere School become a centre of excellence. We’ve invested £150K to add farming, cooking and other extra subjects to the curriculum.

Within 3 years of our investment, Delamere Primary was classified by Ofsted as an outstanding school and became Delamere Academy. It’s the smallest school in the country to achieve this status!

Oak View Academy

We’ve provided financial and mentoring support to Oak View since 2014 – when it was relaunched as Oak View Academy.

Thanks to a generous bursary from the Timpson Foundation, the school can now provide a wide range of exciting new extra-curricular activities, including: a free breakfast club, residential trips, interactive workshops, Spanish lessons, swimming sessions and much more!
